ReCODE program

What is the ReCODE Program?

The ReCODE™ (Reversal of Cognitive Decline) program, developed by Dr. Dale Bredesen, is a cutting-edge approach to slowing or reversing cognitive decline. It uses a personalized, holistic method to optimize brain health by addressing root causes such as inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and toxin exposure.

Offered through certified medical providers trained by Apollo Health, ReCODE™ focuses on improving cognitive function and promoting resilience. At GWCIM, a ReCODE-certified provider team delivers the program, tailored to each patient’s unique needs, offering hope for those seeking to preserve or restore mental clarity.

What is the PreCODE Program?

The PreCODE program focuses on preventing cognitive decline in individuals at risk of Alzheimer’s, while the ReCODE program aims to reverse cognitive decline in those already experiencing symptoms. PreCODE emphasizes early intervention through lifestyle changes and advanced testing to support brain health. PreCODE is less intensive and time-demanding than ReCODE, yet it’s still a personalized approach to addressing the root causes of cognitive impairment. While PreCODE is less intensive than ReCODE, it still provides a tailored treatment plan to optimize brain health and prevent cognitive decline.

To discuss details of the PreCODE program and decide if it is right for you, please schedule an initial visit with Dr. Mikhail Kogan.

How Does our ReCODE Program Work?

  • Initial Assessment: During the initial visits with Dr. Mikhail Kogan, Program Director, and other ReCODE providers, your eligibility for the program will be determined based on your health history and laboratory results.
  • Potential goals and interventions will be discussed following the initial assessments. In some cases, patients may require additional but essential interventions, such as dental work, mold remediation, and the CIRS program (addresses mold toxicity illness).
  • Contract: The program is initiated after signing the ReCODE contract with GWCIM.
  • Ongoing visits and support: Our coordinator schedules and manages regular follow-ups with our ReCODE providers and coaches. We offer both in-person and telemedicine appointments.
  • Groups: We offer optional virtual weekly ReCODE Support Groups for participants and caregivers.
  • Open Houses: ReCODE Open House sessions are held quarterly, featuring online live (and recorded) gatherings with all providers for participants, families, and caregivers, including Q&A, latest news, and updates.
  • Resources: Access to resources: access to additional resources and discounts, including a 20% discount on supplements through the Fullscript supplement store integrated into the patient ChARM portal.

Your First Steps: Initial Assessment

Before starting the ReCODE™ program, our Apollo-certified team will conduct a thorough evaluation of your cognitive and overall health to determine if the program is suitable for you. The following appointments and tests will be scheduled:

  • One up to 20-minute eligibility screening call with Hannah Fine, ReCODE Care Coordinator
  • One session with Dr. Mikhail Kogan, MD, ReCODE Director
  • One session with Ajowa Ifateyo, ReCODE Medical Coordinator
  • One session with Dr. Sally Novak, ReCODE Psychotherapist
  • ReCODE Labs panel (Quest Diagnostics/LabCorp)
  • At-home blood tests: For example, NutrEval (Genova), Mercury test (QuickSilver), and possibly others depending on your individual needs based on an initial visit with Dr. Kogan.
  • IntellxxDNA testing: cognitive genetic assessment
  • Sleep Study

Communications

As GWCIM patients, participants will have access to a secure ChARM Patient Portal, the primary channel of communication. Participants can also call our administrators for assistance.

What are the participants’ commitments?

Success in the ReCODE™ program requires a strong commitment from participants and their support network. Each participant will be paired with a family member or caregiver to provide assistance and coordinate support as needed. Participants should dedicate approximately 2–4 hours daily to activities such as cognitive training, physical exercise, meal preparation, and supplement management. Reliable internet access and the ability to engage in online activities are essential for program participation.

Cost of the program

The estimated annual cost may vary based on your individual health needs.

  • An annual administrative fee of $1,400 applies to each year of the program.

Average Cost of the First Year (medical visits, administrative fees, labs, and tests, groups, supplements):

  • Without dental work or mold program: ~$10K – $15K
  • With mold/CIRS program: additional $7.5K
  • With dental work: additional $500 – $15K+

Average Annual Cost after First Year:

  • Approximately $10K – $15K

Payments:

  • Administrative Support and Coordination: $1,400 yearly fee, billed quarterly through GWCIM after signing the Contract.
  • Appointments: All appointments with GWCIM physicians are paid per appointment at the current provider’s rate (available on the GWCIM website).
  • Third-Party Services: Dental treatments, the mold program, certain labs and tests, and sleep studies are provided by affiliated or recommended facilities and will be billed directly by them.
  • Insurance: GWCIM is a cash-based clinic and does not accept insurance or submit claims on behalf of patients. However, we provide a superbill with service codes that participants can submit to their insurance independently. Most of GWCIM’s services are not covered by standard insurance plans.

GWCIM’s Relationship with the ReCODE Program and Apollo Health

GWCIM is not a part of Apollo Health and does not handle Apollo’s financial matters. The ReCODE program participants do not need to join Apollo Health, but we recommend it. Being an Apollo member gives access to regular virtual meetings with Dr. Bredesen, the Apollo Report, and many other benefits.
