Medical Qigong groups

A recent meta-analysis study demonstrated that qigong has beneficial effects on physical and cognitive functions in older adults. Psychologically, Qigong is associated with decreased anxiety, stress, and depressive symptoms, as well as improved sleep quality, likely through autonomic nervous system regulation and mindful breathing. Overall, the evidence base is growing though heterogeneous.

We currently offer two groups:

  • Long COVID and chronic illness support: Mondays 6:45-7:45pm
  • Cognitive decline/dementia/Alzheimer’s support (including ReCODE members): Wednesdays 11-12pm

This gentle mind-body practice combines slow movements, breathwork, and meditation to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and support circulation and energy flow. For people living with Long COVID and some other chronic conditions, Qigong may help with fatigue and anxiety, motility and flexibility, and restore a sense of vitality without overexertion. Our group creates a safe and supportive space to practice together and promotes healing in your own space and at your own pace.

Why Qigong for those living with cognitive decline?

Through simple movements, mindful breathing, and relaxation techniques, Qigong helps reduce anxiety, support balance, and encourage circulation. Practicing in a group setting, even virtually, engages both participants and caregivers in a shared, calming routine that builds connection, consistency, and mutual support. Several meta-analysis studies demonstrated that practicing qigong improves cognitive function.
