What are the health benefits of Medical Qigong?
Qigong, a mind–body practice combining gentle movement, breath regulation, and focused attention, has been associated with several medical benefits across physical and mental health.
Systematic reviews and randomized trials suggest Qigong can reduce chronic pain, improve balance and functional mobility, and enhance quality of life in conditions such as osteoarthritis, chronic low back pain, and fibromyalgia. It also shows promise for cardiometabolic health by lowering blood pressure and improving lipid profiles, while supporting immune modulation and reductions in inflammatory markers.
A recent meta-analysis study demonstrated that qigong has beneficial effects on physical and cognitive functions in older adults. Psychologically, Qigong is associated with decreased anxiety, stress, and depressive symptoms, as well as improved sleep quality, likely through autonomic nervous system regulation and mindful breathing. Overall, the evidence base is growing though heterogeneous.
Qigong is generally safe and can be a useful adjunct to standard care, particularly for older adults and those with chronic conditions
Qigong is adaptable to every body and every ability.
We currently offer two groups:
- Long COVID and chronic illness support: Mondays 6:45-7:45pm
- Cognitive decline/dementia/Alzheimer’s support (including ReCODE members): Wednesdays 11-12pm

Why Qigong for Long Covid and other chronic conditions?
This gentle mind-body practice combines slow movements, breathwork, and meditation to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and support circulation and energy flow. For people living with Long COVID and some other chronic conditions, Qigong may help with fatigue and anxiety, motility and flexibility, and restore a sense of vitality without overexertion. Our group creates a safe and supportive space to practice together and promotes healing in your own space and at your own pace.

Why Qigong for those living with cognitive decline?
Through simple movements, mindful breathing, and relaxation techniques, Qigong helps reduce anxiety, support balance, and encourage circulation. Practicing in a group setting, even virtually, engages both participants and caregivers in a shared, calming routine that builds connection, consistency, and mutual support. Several meta-analysis studies demonstrated that practicing qigong improves cognitive function.
