Mara Benner’s Four Directions Wellness blog.

Mara has trained in a wide array of ancient healing techniques. She had the pleasure to travel to China to study Qigong with Masters, has studied indigenous cultures to understand how they incorporate mind-body-spirit techniques to heal the physical, the mental, the emotional and how they connect with Spirit.  She has also undergone a two-year seminary program focused on interspiritual practices.  She trained in meditation and mindfulness from Duke University and in Reiki with the GW Center for Integrative Medicine.

Mara also has a leadership background in gerontology, healthcare policy, regulations and quality. She has led national healthcare associations representing publicly traded companies, and worked at the executive level of a large national healthcare corporation. She is an international speaker, trains medical students on patient’s mind-body-spirit alignment, and led a Reiki program at GW Hospital.  Mara currently works as a mind-body-spirit executive coach at the GW Center for Integrative Medicine and at her business, Four Directions Wellness.

Mara began her career majoring in gerontology and working at various times in hospitals, nursing homes, home health, hospice and elder protective services. She has worked at the Federal and state level on healthcare and aging policy. One of the most important perspectives Mara has gained is as a family caregiver and seeing firsthand our healthcare system from the eyes of a patient. These combined experiences have provided a more complete picture of our need for integrative and “whole person” healthcare. Mara has also undergone extensive training throughout her lifetime in mindfulness, health modalities and spiritual exploration. Mara’s certifications have been listed above and Mara is currently in training for medical intuition.

Through all of her experiences, she recognizes that whether for preventative care, acute disease, chronic disease or simply to take a closer look at our inner selves, the body-mind- emotion-spirit connect is a critical journey for each person’s health and vitality. Mara is so pleased to be affiliated with the GW Center for Integrative Medicine and with the leadership of Dr. Kogan and the amazing staff. She is on-site at GWCIM on most Wednesdays and is referred clients to her office at Four Directions Wellness in Alexandria, Virginia. Please feel free to contact Mara at
